The basic structure of this new design is using Woo Theme‘s Canvas Theme , I have created a child them base on Canvas and putting my limited design idea to create some thing different , If you been visit this blog for the past few week , you might even see the blue theme Canvas on trial but in the end I still back to white background to adopt the minimalist design with lesser color used.

So what are the changes ?

Google Font API

Check out the header that I actually using the Google Font API to style the blog title , you can check out the font preview before apply on your own blog.

CSS 3

There are few CSS 3 trick that I m using on this new design, example like rounded corner , text shadow and box shadow.

Sharing

For encourage reader to share the content , instead of having all the sharing link at the end of content, I m trying the floating share bar plugin.

Comment

Interaction is one of the major thing for a blog , I have added comment luv and subscribe to comment to improve user experience for commenter, I’ m still wondering shall I remove the No Follow for comment.

When i first visit the site, i do find that how come the download link is way at the below, it does seem wierd for a open source project that encourage user to download ,  adesblog  mention about this too. After doing some research by google, i finally find out that this so call “open source” activity is just a test , lots of interesting comments is there.

My personal view is make use of the “open source” and  create publicity like this don’t seem like a good idea. Am i the only one find it weird that revolution two ads is showing end of page of theme directory ?

Brian Gardner officially announce on his blog that Revolution will be going open source, those current theme will be keep and a new open source version will be release on 1st Nov 2008, what he did might be causing some big effect in the premiun theme market , even Matt is claiming this wil be theme revolution.

I think open source Revolution this move will sure force a lot of premium theme maker rethink their strategy, they might start thinking what’s the idea/plan behind this and maybe new premium service will appear ?

What i can think of some of current premium theme related service

• Member club service – paying a monthly/annually amount and freely using any theme that release by the club, there are starter like small potato’s theme club ( the new owner that take over seem like no news at all ) , new comer like WooThemes.
• Base theme – Child theme service – the base theme as a theme framework which is free, but base on the frame work working out premium child theme, example like thematic

Can’t wait for 1st November to see the open source Revolution.

I am happy with their latest release which provide custom hooks and filter , i have just recode some of the part of my child theme, all the google ads on my them now is embeded through the function.php, which mean any upgrade of the thematic in future, i can just overwrite it and without rewrite the the code.

I think in future maybe all the famous theme will work in this direction ? which allow easy customize and easy for upgrade. Anyway i tweak some of the css also , font size increase by 1px , let me know if you think the font size is too big ? or too small.

The first theme is getting my attention, but i think it will be too fancy for my liking. Other then this i use the i3theme on this blog before. hmmm … i m thinking to have a mac blog , maybe i should select one theme to use it ?

One question that pop up when i visit the plugins area, why is it there are no similiar extend area for theme ? if there is extend theme area that having same feature like plugins area, the user can get notification once the theme release the new version.

The news is here when i think about this issue and under the extend i saw the theme directory , related to this an idea pop in my mind, can the theme directory work in the direction that make use of the 2.6 feature – Post Revision , where you can compare the new version theme and your current use theme different ? so in future once you get notify your current theme is release new version, you check the diff apply it to the new theme and use it.

wah ! that will be super easy for theme upgrade, currently working on theme upgrade is really troublesome. Anyway welcome the new theme directory and i wonder will there be a premium theme directory soon ?

I did select quite a number of themes to test locally, this is one of theme that attract my eye ball, when looking for a new theme to replace my currently one, especially the twitter bird. i though i won’t be changing a lot of thing since i m quite happy with the original design, but at the end i try with my setting , test with my different plugins and trying to make different effect on my blog.

of course only theme upgrade is not enough, at the same time i did quite a few upgrade on all the plugins, remove unwanted plugins , put in some recommended plugins. I m happy for this release.
