Revolution open source is just a “test”

Last year i blog about one of the exciting news that the famous revolution theme is going open source and it does launch during 31 Oct 08 , but recently when i revisit the site , it seem like all the download link is gone.

When i first visit the site, i do find that how come the download link is way at the below, it does seem wierd for a open source project that encourage user to download , adesblog mention about this too. After doing some research by google, i finally find out that this so call “open source” activity is just a test , lots of interesting comments is there.

My personal view is make use of the “open source” and create publicity like this don’t seem like a good idea. Am i the only one find it weird that revolution two ads is showing end of page of theme directory ?

Is Revolution going to shake the premium theme market ?

Just in case you don’t know what is Revolution , it is one of the first few famous magazine style premiun theme for wordpress and if you often visit those wordpress theme gallery site , most of the time you can see Revolution’s ads will be appear.

Brian Gardner officially announce on his blog that Revolution will be going open source, those current theme will be keep and a new open source version will be release on 1st Nov 2008, what he did might be causing some big effect in the premiun theme market , even Matt is claiming this wil be theme revolution.

I think open source Revolution this move will sure force a lot of premium theme maker rethink their strategy, they might start thinking what’s the idea/plan behind this and maybe new premium service will appear ?

What i can think of some of current premium theme related service

Member club service – paying a monthly/annually amount and freely using any theme that release by the club, there are starter like small potato’s theme club ( the new owner that take over seem like no news at all ) , new comer like WooThemes.
Base theme – Child theme service – the base theme as a theme framework which is free, but base on the frame work working out premium child theme, example like thematic

Can’t wait for 1st November to see the open source Revolution.

Google Chrome Theme Effect

I think a lot of people had try the new browser by Google – Google Chrome , we can see there are a lot of post in the blogsphere talking abot this new browser, but what i going to share is something about the theme.

Other then some of the unique feature as a browser, another thing that Google Chrome getting a lot of attention is because the simple and clean theme and the theme effect has start to spread.

Geez , now i m thinking to port it over for habari.

It’s V9 part 2

I blog about the the new theme i use for this blog last week and i did some modification to make it suit my own need, but after a few day thematic release a new version 0.5. This actually make me think about the child theme theory for thematic theme which is a good way to avoid mess up the theme every time it release upgrade.

So i just follow the step by step setup my own theme which is a child theme from thematic and trying to make my life easier if thematic release any new update next time. The only 1 thing that i still need to hardcode is the ads placement,currently if i using widget to place my ads , it doesn’t really give the feel “embeded the ads into content”, if only all the widget in thematic is allow to customize css ( i think it can be done but i got no time to dig around ) so that i put those ads in the widget and forget about it .

I found one of the little bug where when you have unorder list with some content on a page , it looks wierd because of some css issue, so i post it as a bug in the forum and Ian Steward reply me with a solution and put that into trunk version, kudos to Ian for his support.

Lastly i added some of the social thing at the bottom of blog, reflect my personal interest, i been trying to add jaiku feed but it seem like having some problem. Anyway welcome imknight dot net version 9 !

my blog version 8 update

Finally i did the modification that i want , there are certain part still need to finalize but this should be my new blog theme. This is a make over yichi’s famous theme – Resurrection

I did select quite a number of themes to test locally, this is one of theme that attract my eye ball, when looking for a new theme to replace my currently one, especially the twitter bird. i though i won’t be changing a lot of thing since i m quite happy with the original design, but at the end i try with my setting , test with my different plugins and trying to make different effect on my blog.

Goodbye the old mac design look theme

this is what i remix, from Resurrection to Im Knight v8 – which you currently looking at.

of course only theme upgrade is not enough, at the same time i did quite a few upgrade on all the plugins, remove unwanted plugins , put in some recommended plugins. I m happy for this release.

k2-ing Release

I just release k2-ing Original Version few day ago and now i going to release k2-ing , this is the version that i currently using now.

other then the outlook is slightly different, these are what i add in

added landing sites plugin support
added socialble stylesheet support
added super-archives stylesheet support

this release is fully compatible with the latest k2, lots of k2 feature can be display without problem, even the rolling navigation i have fix it to display properly

Upgraded GetSpot

Getspot is one of my first topic focus blog, which i started to discuss/listing about some of the web2.0 product , while i doing mass upgrade for all my project, Getspot is getting a new look too.

i did struggle to choose a themes for Getspot , i was thinking to give it a web2.0 look, so i try to search some rounded corner/ feature rich themes , Squible is nearly my choice but i having some magierss problem with it , durable is quite good as a web2.0 blog themes too, but i dislike its colors feature, then i found Qwilm! , i even combine its v2 ajax feature to its v3 version and widget it.

Yesterday when i just about to start the upgrade, i accidently saw fUnique and the next moment i see the testrun, i have decided to use this for Getspot

so it turn from a very boring color theme

to this new fresh look

New Look

Finally complete the whole blog upgrade, ya still have little bug here and there , but i think i got no more energy to continue, lots of thing in my mind and i wish to blog about it.

3 main thing of this whole upgrade

my first new mixing themes, combine of 2 different themes into 1
upgrade tons of the plugin and replace some old one with better feature ( more detail will be on this when tomorrow i have a clear mind to blog about it )
some ads is turn out, ya after 2 year i also step on this road , lots of reason for this but i think i won’t mention it

take a break from now , i really need some rest.
