after playing with it a while, this new interface remind me of salesforce.com dashboard feature, which you are allow to create certain report and put in at the dashboard , you can customize the whole dashboard to suit your own need, put the info that you most concern on top , be it visitorship ? page view ? or browser version.

Just find out from this blog , that Salesforce release the platform edition , which is the basic or so call OEM edition , without all the CRM module. The first thing pop in my mind is Great ! base on this , everyone can just build the application base on their requirement without the CRM restriction. But the next thing is , without the CRM why i still want to use Salesforce ? there are quite a few web2.0 product out there which can do the same thing …

the selling point might be

• Appexchange – lots of application is ready to use
• Apex Code – on demand programming lanaguage
• Reliable backend ?

anyway i still wish Salesforce could build an Asia data center, best if is in singapore

By using this little addon on excel, you can add, delete, update your content, include any custom object that you build, this little tools can help administrator handle the data easily.

some of the tips of using excel connector:

• put “new” in record id field to indicate this data is going to insert
• if error during insert data and the error message is related “field security”, make sure that you don’t add in data for owner, created by, created time all these field will be generate by system and its not allow for you to override
• one common problem is after you manipulate the data, you change the data type, field name of a field in salesforce , you might get error when you trying to retrieve data, just log off and login again the plugin on excel, this should get rid of the error.
• if after log off and login again, getting error “duplicate field”, just find the field which is duplicate, delete that particular column and request table data.

• Asia need a Salesforce’s data centre. Currently, all salesforce’s data centre are located at US and i believe to attract customer in Asia, a data centre in Asia region is a must.
• Lower pricing is required. Salesforce is indeed a powerful service (software) but with their current pricing structure, it’s still a bit too high for Asia market.
• More open platforms are needed. Appexchange is a very good move, but the bad point is that it’s too commercialized. it might be good to make it open source.

as usual the first thing pop in my mind is host it myself , i got a few open source option like Sugarcrm Open Source Edition or Vtiger , after some trial and testing , suddenly the idea pop in my mind, let say if i using crm for support, when my host down = my crm down, my customer will have no way to contact me …

So i take out host it myself option and looking for trial account from Saas provider. Salesforce developer edition is one of the thing that i aiming for. i really like the flexible and customization of Salesforce, but developer edition is having some limitation and for current stage i still not prepare to pay a big sum of $$ for crm ..

Moving my target to the hyper of web2.0 , i was trying to source out any crm2.0 service out there, so far i only manage to found Relenta , but too bad limited feature and not so flexible design ( can’t create custom object like salesforce ), i don’t think i will use it … any crm 2.0 to recommend ?
