Just after one week that i blog about Drupal 5 looks promising , Drupal 5 is official release , you can check the detail of this release or watching their videocast

p/s take note drupal 4.6 is no longer maintained , better upgrade it now.

Drupal 5 Looks Promising

WordPress and Drupal are the two open source scripts that i am still paying attention to. They are both my favourite and i always need to struggle on which one to use. Bloglah, which is one of my current project, has been switching between WordPress and drupal platform for a few times. Currently, it faces some technical problem again and I have already aimed Drupal 5 as my next target.

Drupal 5 seems to be quite promising to me and its new features can be seen through this video. However, most of the module developers are still waiting for the final version of Drupal 5 before they upgrade their modules, therefore if you thinking for upgrade , you might need to wait for the final release.

This is something that i been waiting for .. yes drupal is release 4.7 final now , its been sometime since all the RC version release , i been waiting this final version to upgrade my chinese blog aggregator ..

what i like the most in this latest version

ajax supported
free tagging feature included

Bloglah – consider one of my quite sucessful recent project has just reopen.

Original i using wordpress with an aggregator plugin to startup this project, after 200++ blog been added, the whole project is a bit out of control , lots of feed is not fetched, lots of feature which i thinking to add in been limit by wordpress structure, it still a blogging system , not a content management system, what it can be done still has a limit.

So i give the latest drupal a try and see hows it goes, after a week testing, it seem like drupal can meet my requirement, compare to my current setting . its less overhead too. after the past few night working on it, all the feed been move to the new system and until now i just reliase how powerful drupal is ..

lots of customise can be done through drupal .. hmmmm maybe i can create a web games base on drupal ?

Drupal is getting better

Its been few month since i last visit drupal. if i want to choose the CMS that i would like to get involved, Drupal would be the top one , i been spending quite a big amount of time on Xoops before, some time on mambo/joomla , but i still think that drupal have some best feature that attract me. the only dissapoint on drupal is theme and module, compare to others it seem like the choice of theme and module is very little, i wonder its that because of the the script is too complex ? or not famous enough ?

anyway due to some need, i revisit drupal and found out that their release the 4.7 Beta , of course as usual, i download the latest version and play around, wah ! i havent go through everything but what i can tell its seem like having a lot of improvement, the interface give me the same feeling like from wordpress 1.5 to wordpress 2.0, more user friendly and easier to interact, one of the best thing is how they handle the utf string, it would at least reduce 40% of my dev time, if i need to run some chinese related site, i still can remember when i using wordpress for the chinese aggregator, how much effort i need to put in for it to handle those multi byte string well.

but as usual, so many good feature been added in, the core should be some where different, i think quite a lot of module its not really working well with 4.7 , but i think grabbing direct from CVS would be a better solution, now i just wish i have more time to make migration.

Mysql Problem with Drupal

after i mention about Drupal vs Mambo , i getting some feedback and more putting effort for more research, i decided to use Drupal . i was playing with Drupal this few day, i found out that Drupal is not that easy as i think but its more intersting if i compare to Mambo .

So i was keep getting this error

user error: Access denied for user: ‘knight@localhost’ to database ‘drupal’
query: LOCK TABLES sequences WRITE in /htdocs/bla/includes/database.mysql.inc

althought it wont really affect anything. but is quite annoying, so i decide to debug this error, i found some solution at drupal site but it seem wierd to me because my mysql is on 4.02 but i can’t see the lock table option, then i saw an error msg on phpmyadmin, i know that i need to upgrade my privilege tables. althought my mysql is on version 4.02 but my privilege tables still on version 3.23.

so these are the step

run this under shell mysql_fix_privilege_tables –password=root_password
it show some success msg and some duplicate error msg which can ignore
restart mysql server /etc/init.d/mysql restart
login phpmyadmin now you can see the lock table option
grant the option for the user and for the particular database

problem solve !
