I did some comparison before and mention that slicehost score another point , today Linode is strike back with their Linode Library.

I mention this before documentation / help file will be useful for developer friendly host , in fact some time it become one of the benchmark for hosting, Linode have some nice VPS offer , what they lack of are these help file and documentation, although there are not many contents yet compare to slicehost’s articles , but i believe this is a great start for Linode, kudos to the Linode Team.

Is there Instant Deployment for PHP ?

I was reading Why Instant Deployment Matters from heroku’s blog this morning , i believe it is the same reason why i give webbynode a try. I would prefer to just focus on development , in stead of wasting time to learn how to configure/tweak/fine tune it, this might be the same reason , i have try out slicehost but in end just put my account on pause first.

On a side note, there are Heroku for rails, Google App Engine for python , is there are similar service for PHP ?

Slicehost score another point

I have try out slicehost for 2 month before and linode is on my list, if i manage to squeeze out some time to get a VPS for some development, currently both VPS are most of the developer first choice VPS. Here are some of the comparison between this 2 vps hosting provider.

Documentation – in term of documentation,linode have a wiki with some of the basic information but slicehost has lots of step by step and complete documentation , that is one of major reason as a web server admin newbie, i try out slicehost first. slicehost 1 : linode 0
Value of money – slicehost cheapest plan is $2p for 256MB RAM disk space, 10G and 100G bandwidth, linode cheapest plan is $20 also but with 360MB RAM, 12GB disk space and 200G bandwidth. slicehost 1 : linode 1
Datacenter – before this slicehost only have one choice which is St. Louis , where linode have 4 data center for you to choose . slicehost 1 : linode 2

But slicehost just make an announcement yesterday, the new member will be place at Rackspace Dallas datacenter, Woo Hoo! a new choice of datacenter for user ! slicehost make a good strike and score another point.

I will still follow my original plan and give linode a try but i think i will try a slice on the new dallas dc too.

i get my slice during 2007 but quit it after first month and now i just go back to them and get the smallest slice , the admin area seem improve a lot and i just follow the documentation setup my slice and ready with ngix.

Getting my slice from Slicehost

after 2 month waiting, finally slicehost inform me this morning, my slice is ready.

slicehost is one of the famous developer friendly vps provider, you can find quite a lot of good comment about them. some of the feature that getting my attention.

Rescue Mode
Mobile Slice Manager
Ajax Console

can’t wait to start hack and slash my slice256 !
