Posterous was launching a switching initiative last week, which trying to get users switch to Posterous from different services by easy migration tools.There are different opinions about these aggressive “switching initiative”, some say Posterous is in danger to launch a massive campaign like this and some say kudos to these aggressive campaign.

It’s been 7 day since the switching started , so far there are 4 service importer launched , although Posterous did promise an importer per day , but it seem like a bit difficult to keep up.Another interesting thing that i find out is seem like there are more respond for Tumblr importer base on the number of Facebook Likes, Retweet and comments.

So how easy are these importer ? I did a test on my Tumblr blog , what I need to do is just supply my email and my Tumblr blog address and the Tumblr to Posterous importer will do the rest of work, once the importing ready , there will be an email tell you. All the imported Post will be categorize as imported and you can choose to merge with your existing Posterous Blog or import to a new standalone blog.

So will you switch to Posterous ? if you are , why ?

$24.99 to buy a domain at Posterous

I can’t deny this is really a good feature for Posterous when i see it on their blog , but i m shocked when i try on domain interface and saw the domain registeration pricing. It’s’ about USD $ 25 for register a domain plus a “super easy to set up your own personalized email boxes, calendars, and wikis using Google Apps” interface, i wonder how it looks like.

Personally i think the pricing is a bit over, that is around USD $10 different compare to WordPress.com.Wordpress.com is charging user $14.97 for a domain each year and they added the dns control recently , i guess this must be a strike back to Posterous new feature.

Posterous – posting anything by just email

I m not sure can i consider posterous a micro blogging service, although i tag it as mciro blogging on my delicious, but i think it more consider as tumblog , which mean someting like tumblr.

So what it does is getting email from you and publish it as a blog post, sounds straight forward and i think major blog service do have this feature, the unique part of posterous is – it will host the file that you attach with your email.

Be it a doc, ppt , pdf , jpg/gif/png or mp3, it will upload to posterous and you can set it with a download link or not in your setting. You can try to put youtube url in the email, which posterous will auto embeded the player in your post, similar feature for mp3 file too.

The last cool thing posterous did is cross posting, a cool example is i write a short review attach with some image and post it to posterous , by activate the cross posting feature, it will post my image to my flickr account and at the same time posting it to my blog , all these done by just email.

A few thing to take note is , there are no theme feature yet, although is in their todo list, i can’t find any backup feature too, if i need to remove my account and backup my upload file ? One good thing is it allow you to use your own custom domain.
