Thematic Upgrade

I have just upgrade thematic to the latest version. Thematic is the wordpress theme framework that i use on this blog currently, i blog about it during V9 release and V9 part 2

I am happy with their latest release which provide custom hooks and filter , i have just recode some of the part of my child theme, all the google ads on my them now is embeded through the function.php, which mean any upgrade of the thematic in future, i can just overwrite it and without rewrite the the code.

I think in future maybe all the famous theme will work in this direction ? which allow easy customize and easy for upgrade. Anyway i tweak some of the css also , font size increase by 1px , let me know if you think the font size is too big ? or too small.

It’s V9 part 2

I blog about the the new theme i use for this blog last week and i did some modification to make it suit my own need, but after a few day thematic release a new version 0.5. This actually make me think about the child theme theory for thematic theme which is a good way to avoid mess up the theme every time it release upgrade.

So i just follow the step by step setup my own theme which is a child theme from thematic and trying to make my life easier if thematic release any new update next time. The only 1 thing that i still need to hardcode is the ads placement,currently if i using widget to place my ads , it doesn’t really give the feel “embeded the ads into content”, if only all the widget in thematic is allow to customize css ( i think it can be done but i got no time to dig around ) so that i put those ads in the widget and forget about it .

I found one of the little bug where when you have unorder list with some content on a page , it looks wierd because of some css issue, so i post it as a bug in the forum and Ian Steward reply me with a solution and put that into trunk version, kudos to Ian for his support.

Lastly i added some of the social thing at the bottom of blog, reflect my personal interest, i been trying to add jaiku feed but it seem like having some problem. Anyway welcome imknight dot net version 9 !

I been looking for a clean and allow customization theme for some time already, i been using the dark color theme for the past 7 month and feel like convert back to the clean theme, no such luck for the past few week until i found Thematic

Thematic come with 3 style which allow you to switch btw 2 column or 3 column, other then this, the most powerful part should be the widget part, other then the standard column widget, it added like for index top, index bottom or post insert , which allow you to customize your theme without modify the theme itself.

I think i kickstart the whole changing process this morning around 10am and work non stop until now. Most of the part is ready and i have did some tweaking.The bottom part is currently under testing, i going to put some of widget there to see how it goes.
