I been using Remember The Milk (RTM) since beta and bought their pro account since 2008 , some time I might just lazy and stop keep track or update my task for a few day , but after  the break , I will be back to organize with RTM again. Especially after I become a full-time freelancer ,  RTM is helping me  to keep up with all tasks and remind me when the due date is near.

After one year plus of waiting and iPad has release version 2  already , finally Remember The Milk release their RTM for iPad today. It seem like not just a port from the iPhone version, there are lots of enhancement and fully utilized iPad features.

Remember The Milk for iPad is now available on iTunes store , it allow both free and pro account to use it , although free account can only do manual sync every 24 hours and without the notification feature, but the rest of features is remain the same as the pro account, you can give it a try before you decide for the yearly payment of USD$25 pro account.

I m a long time remember the milk’s supporter , i subscribe as RTM Pro for a year until May 2009 and stop for a few month to try up different GTD solutions, but it seem like no other solutions are better than rtm in term of syncing with mobile device, therefor i m back as RTM Pro during last year Dec promo.

I receive my account expiry soon notification some time ago , which is impossible since my subscription just past 3 month . I send in my first official support ticket and the respond was really disappointed.

  • I filed my support ticket 13 days ago.
  • 3 days later they reply asking for my paypal transaction id
  • I find it strange and i wonder why not they just check my order history ?  but i still reply the email with my paypal transaction id.
  • They came back again re-confirmation of my paypal email.
  • Due to my work load, I miss out the email and reply it 2 day later
  • They went missing for few day
  • I question it on my twitter and the forum
  • No one from RTM give me a reply but a support email incoming
  • Problem resolved.

For sure I m not happy with their support level, there are no reply on my twitter status and my thread in forum. If this is how they support users , i really need to consider an alternative services or application to replace it. Seriously GTD market is quite competitive , RTM you better improve your support before you start losing your users.

rtm_nobetaIt’s great to see another web2.0 service getting mature and finally step out from the “beta” branding, although now day the “beta” meaning is totally different. After four Remember The Milk finally remove the beta words from their logo, i thought they remove it already when they launch the pro account.

I been using Remember The Milk on and off for the past 4 years, i did subscribe the pro account for 1 year before but cancel it, i been trying a lot of replacement service , yet i still come back to RTM , i wrote a number of post on RTM before on this blog and most likely once i change my mobile phone from windows mobile to either iPhone or Android , i will be subscribe back to RTM, it seem like running on this 2 platform really help RTM gaining more users .

I m a remember the milk pro account user , my account is going to expired tomorrow and i m not going to renew it.

This is not related to Remember The Milk at all , it does serve me well , having a nice and clean interface , google gear supported for offline todo and a great iphone apps that accompany my every morning lonely trip and the only thing it lack of  , might be a desktop client.

Since rtm serve me well , why am i still changing ?

  • I feel like trying something new
  • I would like to have a desktop client
  • I got The Hit List free as part of my macheist bundle purchase
  • I heard that The Hit List iphone apps is in process
  • $25 per year vs once off application fee

because of all these reason, i have decided not to renew my rtm account and migrated all my task over to The Hit List and i will be still using rtm for some quick work. Let’s hope The Hit List can help me to be more organize and please release the iphone apps A.S.A.P. thanks !

Some time ago, Google already realease the beta of Google Gears on Safari and it seem now is a official release. But what i think is google gears for safari is nothing special, if only this google gears can work on iphone/ipod touch’s safari, then it can show it’s actual value.

I have try to install it on my ipod touch during beta release, but it seem like it will differentship Safari on iphone/ipod touch or desktop/notebook, it will mention that browser is not support for google gears.

If google gears can be run on iphone safari, example you can run rememberthemilk offline on it,this should help if they don’t have time to create the native iphone apps yet.

I think i never mention i become Remember The Milk Pro begining of May, why am i subscribe ? i think most of the people might just happy with the free membership, but i m slighly different

  1. to show my support, i been using RTM for sometime , it is a recommend web service
  2. to use the sync feature, it allow you to sync with windows mobile, iphone and blackblerry
  3. $25 for 1 year is consider cheap for all these feature include gmail n offline support

So far i m still trying to integrate this GTD tools closely with my life, the milksync feature actually allow sync the task to my windows mobile outlook task, i havent test it this way but i think by make use of milksync , it might allow me to do outlook <> Mobile Phone <> Remember the milk .

One of the recent post on their blog give you a better idea how to make use of their service with proper GTD style , i take some of the suggestion and use it on my own way, if you still looking for a todo list, give it a try.

I been looking for an online planner/planning/organize/goal setting service that meet my requirement, it should include of notes , todo list and can be separate by subpage/sub category with ical/gcal features.

Similar type of service

  • Backpack – the pages part look great, meet most of my requirement, the only thing is the pricing, if they allow to let me replace the storage with more pages, i will really consider to take them
  • Zoho Planner – another almost meet my requirement service, the only problem is the ical feature cannot split by different pages/tag/category
  • Stikkit – service that meet all my requirement, but it seem like the dev team is focus on Sandy , lack of reply or adding new feature, users are complaint about these in the forum

Todo service that similar feature

  • Remember The Milk – this is what i currently using for GTD , 2 small problem is you can’t just create a note without attach to a todo and you can’t verw everything in one page with their own category/tag name. I m struggle in the situation shall i place all my egg in the same basket
  • Todoist – my second favourite todo list , it fix the 2 problem that i have in RTM but without ical/gcal feature, worst come to worst i might just write a small plugin for this ?

Hard to decide , final round should be Todoist vs Stikkit

I blog about Remember The Milk go Pro not long ago, as i say the interesting part is what feature will they release after starting of subscription service and how they going to maintain the balance between the pro account user and the free account user.

Today, the RTM dev team release their first feature for pro account user – Milksync , which allow windows mobile user to sync with RTM, this feature looks good to me, although RTM mobile is easy to use on mobile but you can’t have connection for every place that you go, an offline client is required for sure. I can’t wait to see review on this milksync , i m quite confident with these guy, don’t forget they are one of the first web2.0 that make use of google gear.

By end of the year, if RTM continue to impress me like this, i think i will grab a pro account too, anyway it share the same price tag with flickr account, i might renew both at the same time.

One of the good todo list service has go pro , i believe which is quite common for most of the web2.0 service out there, but at the same time free user still remain the same access to the service, they are not cutting down or limit how many project/task you can add in.

The Pro account is about USD$25 dollar which i believe is quite reasonable and cheap if you compare with some other chargeable service, in term of features, i think RTM have plenty of creative idea and design, don’t forget they are one of the first few that make use of google gear, integrated with google calendar etc.

like what RTM say

“Has RTM made you more organized and productive? Upgrade to Pro and support RTM.”

RTM Pro

blog about this just to show my support to RTM, although i not longer actively using it, but if they release some feature that capture my attention, i might just subscribe it.
