I thought it should be no harm for just connect and it seem like there is a share button after each quest complete , I assume that the social network sharing will done manually , after connect my social network account and playing for another 10 minutes , checking on my Facebook and Twitter, it flood with all the in games news, it seem like that games is trying to get viral by doing all these auto posting.

As usual  ( it seem pretty typical tactic for all the freemium games now day ) I want to stop the auto posting and delete all post & tweets , but I can’t find any options for it ? for Facebook , I use to found these options on the applications tabs but it seem like no longer there , on the twitter side , the usual page for apps that I authorize also nothing found, how am I going to disable all these auto post ?

It turn out that now day no longer need to tweak the setting on the individual social network ,  all these settings can be tweak on the iPad , for example for Facebook , you just navigate to Settings on iOS , there should be a Facebook section, you will see apps that you allow to use your account. Turn if off and the games unable to auto post any news to your Facebook account any more.

Same setting apply for twitter too, just disable it and no longer having any auto posting on your twitter account.

once you pause the app to do auto posting , now you can start clean up all the auto posting on your Twitter and Facebook, I like the game but I don’t like being spam like this.

So the project codename is “FB Group Doc”, the idea come from one of my friend, she just join a very active Facebook Group , there are tons of useful info where the member share within the group as group doc, so her request is quite simple , she prefer to read the doc on mobile device.

I think since these are cooking recipe, view it on mobile browser might help user to practice the new dish in the kitchen. So what pop up in my mind is using jQuery Mobile and Facebook SDK to build this.

I spend some time to play with Heroku and Facebook PHP SDK in order to make sure what query to perform and what data to expect, next will be fire up the jQuery Mobile documentation to understand how this mobile framework works. One of the best tips I learn is how to develop Facebook Apps locally.

So the end result is this, the main menu after connect with Facebook Connect, it will just pull the list of doc of this particular group, since I lazy to build the navigation, I just load all the 150 doc in one go , the filter seem like a bit lagging, not sure is it due to too many items.

Clicking on each entry will move into a detail page. It seem like there is no page navigation button to put it on header, so I just created 2 back button to leave it on top and bottom. One thing still puzzle me is the doc that consist of image will be show as (img:123456789) which I can’t find how to parse this into image , so open a ticket on Facebook Stackoverflow and hopefully see some reply on this.

This seem like very niche app, I was wonder shall I compile this and sell it on codecanyon ? but again not sure how common is a Facebook Group sharing massive doc in this way, maybe can build it as a iOS app.

No doubt FBinterest is build on top of same layout of Pinterest but I kind of like the ideas, it pull your Facebook Album with the comment and likes and display it with the Pinterest layout , it is much better to view a Facebook Album in this way I think.

FBinterest was done by a taiwan developer @deduce by ruby on rails  , the Pinterest layout is actually clone by evenwu on github , I guess my next project might want to use the same layout too , but I guess need to learn how to use the haml and Sass first.

FBinterest  is very easy to use , you can create the album in 3 simple steps.

1. Facebook connect your account, then you will see a lot of your album to choose.

2. The selected album will be auto populate.

3. Just generate the page and it will have a fix url

I going to run through how to set up Facebook Video Call on Mac , first you need to visit the Facebook Video Call page, clicking on the Getting Start button will launch your friend list, choose one of your friend and follow the instruction to start the video call.

You will prompt to download a file – FacebookVideoCalling.jar, once the download is finish , start the terminal and type Java -jar FacebookVideoCalling.jar. This will actually prompt the Facebook Video Call download client , it will download and setup for your Mac.

So I continue to start the video call , just try to give my bro a call to test this.

Seem like my bro is busy with work, never respond , then I can leave a video message for him. Too bad it seem like lots of people are trying this new feature ? I only getting error message, maybe I shall trying again later.

Facebook actually send me an email to tell me that there are suspicious account access on my account and ask me to recover it, going through the step by step of account recovering  , it even show me the access is from where, I believe there is a tracking on where i Facebook normally and by using what browser etc, when the access pattern is very different , it will trigger access alert.

Anyway after this lesson , I have separate my access into a few group of password , the main email account which is most important should have a standalone password, don’t use any password that you been using to register all kind of web services out there, since this is the main account, all the web services will just send a request to your email for verify, so must keep this highly confidential.

Another ground of access is for account that have my personal identity , like Facebook, Twitter , Amazon, those have my personal info should have another set of password. Lastly the web services out there should have another set of password. I m middle of these changing process, some time I have to give it a few try to confirm which password I use for this, but I tink this really worth the effort.

First you will be getting an upgrade screen, the process started by clicking on the upgrade button.

Facebook will ask you claim your Facebook Email, it will use your profile name as the email, since my profile is http://facebook.com/imknight , my Facebook Email will be imknight@facebook.com, pretty straight forward, I wonder those Facebook user that having funny profile name how ? will there be any option allow them to change ?

Once the Facebook Email account is activate , emails/message from your Facebook friend will go Messages folder, the rest who are not your friend in Facebook will be go into other folder.The other folder is consist of all the Fan page update too.

As you can see , I did some testing from my Gmail account, forwarded email, just reply and reply with messages , it display in 3 different format on the Facebook Messages Inbox. Subject will be only display if is a forwarded email.

This will be how the html email showing , when you click on the show Hidden Text, it seem like most of the html style has been strip off.

One of the great example is other then communicate with Tech person on Twitter, I recently start to communicate with my brother , his friend and my wife together on Twitter , some time we tweet about World of Warcraft, some time we discuss about ebook reader, I find that communicate in this way is much better then on IM.

1. It allow everyone to join in conversation, some time I just rant about something and all your friend are join in to discuss the issue you have.
2. It allow information sharing , example I saw my brother and his friend was tweet about Kobo , I give it a try and start to buy ebook from kobo too.
3. It is not required real time respond like IM , we expect there is delay when we communicate on Twitter, When we discuss on IM, very often we are waiting for the reply and want the reply ASAP.

Another example now day when I want to know what happen recently of my friend, I just get into Facebook and check on their profile will do. There is no need to phone call and force the other party to answer the call ,without knowing hows their mood ? or trying to IM your friend , started the conversation and don’t know how to continue ?

So does these social network application change the way of your communication in 2010 ?

I believe the Facebook official blog have explain clearly the changes. I just want to share some of my experience. One of the common thing you will do after the upgrade is editing your profile, if  lots of info you never fill in last time, you will know, because the profile page is going to display these nicely.

One of the example below of your name , you will see some short introduction about you, where you work , where you study, currently stay at where, original from where etc etc, if you have filled these info, I believe when your next friend request might be easier to sucess.

For the work info wise, other then fill in where you work, it allow you to fill in the project period and detail , this allow you to show case what have you done in your company , the next job resume might be reference to Facebook ? it might sounds like a challenge toward linkedln.

The last two improvement for the profile page should be there are more photos showing and allow to display friend list at the side bar.

I going to share a real example I saw it this morning. I saw this link ( finish this post before you click on it ) “OMG! Girl Got Kicked Out Of School For DRESSING Like This!” share by a few friend this morning,my instinct told me that this page sure got something weird. The landing page looks like a normal page , with a Call To Action button, using firebug to drill in the code and it seem this is not just a simple button.

Clicking on this button, it bring you to another landing page which seem like trying to verify you are a real person by giving you instruction to click on red and blue color.Checking on firebug , you will see that the red color box actually cover an iframe for share button.

If you click on the red box ? checking your own profile again, you will find out that you are sharing the page through your profile without your knowledge, your friend all will think that you are sharing this site because you find it useful ? but the real fact that you not even know this appear on your profile , if you never check on it.

So what about the blue box ? what are the code that hide in the blue box ? it seem like is a like button. So let’s try to click on it.

What you getting on your profile is you have become the fans of this page quietly. Yes there are no hints/information/alert that tell you what happen when you click on it.

By using these trick, the page getting expose on your profile , which showing to all your friend and this page getting you as their new fans.You have just become the victim of this Facebook Page Spammer.Checking your Facebook profile now to see any of these message showing, remove it now to reduced the impact toward your friend. That’s why I will advice you think before you click because you won’t know what the link will do at the background.

What is Sharing Facebook Video?

It means that share the video which host on your site to Facebook and allow Facebook user to video the video without leaving Facebook,this is done by one button click or bookmarklet , which is more convenient compare to upload video to Facebook, but take note that it will consume your site bandwidth.

How to Share Video ?

So how to share the video on Facebook ? first you need to specify meta tag , what these meta tag do is to send info to Facebook, the detail of content that going to share, include content type , content height and width ( for video ) , content thumbnail ( for showing a nice image beside the sharing content ).

Once all these meta in place , by right the video that you share on Facebook will be able to play already , but this is the problem what I try to resolved for the past few week, everything looks ok but the video just won’t play on Facebook, turn firebug on and you will see the FLV file is actually loading but it just won’t display the video on Facebook.

How to solve this ?

After some massive testing, I just find out that the solution is very simple, contact Facebook team, send them this Video Embed Whitelist Request , although the auto reply email mention it will respond within one week after you send in the request form, but I actually getting the reply from Facebook on next day and mention that the request has been approve.Once your site has been Whitelisted, your video will be playing without any problem.

Some other common mistake

• mix up between <meta> and <link>, some of the info you need to use< meta> tag and some of these info is using <link>.
• no full path playlist included, which prevent video to load the video properly.
• the video file embed format should be swf, you can point to your swf video player which load a flv video.
• the orders of <meta> and <link> tag, this seem like affect how the data display when sharing too.
