I m using lesser web services / web apps compare to the past few year and it seem like I will be much more prefer web services that using application as interface or it just work without much configuration. These are the web applications / web services that I m still using during 2011.

  • Gmail – using to manage all my email , even my own domain, I will be just use the Google Apps to host my own emails, I been using iPhone Mail and Sparrow to check my Gmails.
  • Google Calendar – using to manage all my appointment, it sync with my iPhone ical my iMac ical.
  • Dropxbox – One of the best Cloud Storage services and it help me a lot for my freelance work.
  • Evernote – One of the best notes that live in the Cloud, you can access it through multi platform and multi device is one of the selling point.
  • Remember The Milk – My todo list services for the past few year, the iPhone version is good and the iPad version is better and don’t forget most of premium to do list is charging for the sync, why not just get a services instead of an application.
  • Pinboard – I believe this is one of the web services that I can only access it through web browser, it still serve me well for me to bookmark resources.

As you can see most of the choice remain the same like last year, I belive I have moving from Goole era which using everything through the Browser  to access all kind of web application in the cloud – to the Apple era , where using all the device  with apps to access the Cloud.

This might be the reason other than web development , I would like to give iOS development a try.

It is interesting how I found out about this piece of news, I saw Skitch appear as free apps on Mac Stories Daily Deals series and I wonder what are the promos they are running , checking on the news and finally I find out that Evernote Acquires Skitch.

I would say it is great for Skitch , after long time for no actively update , then announce their future plan and membership subscription which most of the people doesn’t look good on this. I been hopping it will release something on top of the image snapper, maybe an image management interface like Little Snapper , but it doesn’t happen.

Skitch is one of my favourite image snapping and annotate tools , almost all the images I use on this blog is capture by Skitch , other than this I capture some of the screen shot and directly pull to my Evernote‘s app for notes purpose, hopefully this acquisition will help the better integration between Skitch and Evernote.

On the side note , Skitch release a nice android Skitch app, hopefully after become part of Evernote , they will bringing more features on this wonderful image capture application.

I been using evernote for quite some time and i m loving it , although i haven’t become the premium user but it play a big part on my digital life, which most likely going to turn me into paid user by end of this year. I m using evernote to keep my ideas, blogging topic and some tech article.

One of the major problem i have for evernote is to capture blog post ,when i read some nice blog post, i would like to use the web clip to keep the blogpost , but most of the time it will capture lots of useless info too , it is waste of bandwidth because there are upload limit monthly. So Readbility come in handy, it “removing the clutter around what you reading” and allow you to focus on content only.

I found a solution on evernote user forum that combine the best of this 2 , what it does is change the evernote web clipper javascript and combine with Readbility javascript, when you press the web clipping , the website will be turn into Readbility mode and keep in your evernote account.

I m thinking of blog about all my bookmarklet just now and discover this new tool for better web reading experience – Readability. So What Readability did is create a bookmarklet for you base on your selection of text and display, by using this bookmarklet any article / blog post / story / news can be display in the way you want , which is more content focus.

If you are familiar with all kind of web2.0 product, Readability are quite similar to instapaper , in fact  Readability is inspired by instapaper . Currently the source code for Readability are hosted on google code and it seem like there are PHP Ported.

Another usage for Readability is combine with evernote , if you often using evernote , you might hate it when you try to clip a blog post, lots of non-related image and text will been clip together, if you are using a free evernote account, this will be worse , because it suck up more bandwidth, so there you go ,a bookmarklet combine Readability with evernote , it will format the text nicely before clip to evernote.

I like evernote service a lot. i have the windows version at my office, mac version for my home’s iMac , windows mobile version on my Treo and iphone apps version for my ipod touch. So this is some of the rant about the evernote iphone apps.

  1. It’s very troublesome to tag note as favourtite – evernote is not viewable in iphone apps during offline , unless you tag the note as your favourite note. So how you do that ? you need to go in a note , wait for it to load then you can mark it as favourite, there are no mass marking available and the desktop version of evernote application doesn’t support this.
  2. It always ask for using your location – there is no setting for you to control this and it will keep ask you “Evernote” would like to use your current location ? “
  3. You can’t edit the note that havent sync – let you you write a note, click done and wait it for sync, suddenly you think of something, but you can’t edit the note if it never sync
  4. Only 1 note list can be view in offline – i understand not all notes is store, but let say if you are viewing on one particular notebook , after you offline , there is no way for you to navigate to other notebook to see what notes you have, it will only pop up “Error communicating with Evernotes server”
  5. Lastly there is a bug on pending screen – pending note with no note pending image showing at the same time

I been spam by evernote’s blog comment for the past few day, it seem like everyone that comment on their blog, will show in my google reader, when i have tons of the rss to read , this is really annoying me. In stead of just unsubscribe it, i decided to visit their blog and see why they did this.

It seem like evernote’s blog is has change to feedburner , what i subscribe in my blog is their original feed address , i try to click on their old address and it did redirect properly to the feedburner url, hmmm .. but how come this doesn’t reflect on google reader ? anyway i think evernote should do something on this, at least make a post to inform the old subscribers to re-subscribe again.

I really like service that provide cross platform client, that is one of main reason i like the new Evernote

What is Evernote ? try to imagine it as a powerful note service, you can note the site or content by browser , on your windows client, your mac client or evern when you on mobile, It support reading note by using imap too, but i find it a bit slow on my windows mobile. What you can capture by evernote ?

  • Webpages
  • Wine labels
  • Whiteboards
  • Photos
  • To-dos
  • Scribbles

How i use it ? at office i m using windows system, so i use my win client to capture some of notes and some of the info that i want to digest when i go home, on the way back, using my windows mobile and 3G , i m able to go through my note and even draft out some blog post, at home i sync everything to my evernote mac client and doing some clean up.

I think Evernote should improve the windows mobile client, at least there will be a local copy of notes to store in stead of just a search function to look for online notes. I think if the pricing is right , i will mostly using this service

I have 10 invitation , let your comment to ask for one
