Why I choose Mailgun over Sparkpost?

Free tier issue

Mailgun provides free tier with control. The first 10k email is free, if you provide payment info, they will add 30-day log retention, multiple user accounts and up to 1,000 custom domains for your account. I think the control can reduce users who try to ambush the system. On the other hand Sparkpost, free tier comes with 100k email without many conditions; it make me worry will I need to migrate soon if I am using them.

Interface

Mailgun has a clean interface,  under each domain, I can see what email is sending to who under the log file, where Sparkpost group the email by domain, I can only see I sending out email count group by domain.

Email Content

Mailgun allows you to view outgoing email content; Sparkpost doesn’t have this feature yet.

Sending Domain

Sparkpost restricts all email must be sending out from the domain you added. Mailgun doesn’t have this restriction. For my case I have managed an e-commerce website that all the staff is using stand alone gmail account, so Mailgun saves the day in this scenario.

For sure there are some Sparkpost features which Mailgun don’t have. For example, the email transaction template but like I say Mailgun is more suitable for my use case. Dear Mandrill user, do consider Mailgun if you haven’t migrated yet, there are about two weeks more before Mandrill merge into Mailchimp.

My first impression after install finish Sparrow and launch , this is just like Tweetie , one of the famous twitter client that bought over by Twitter.

after playing around for a while, I would say it is very minimalist style email client, but it lack of priority inbox feature is really difficult to win the web user over. P/s some of my twitter mate mention that Sparrow taking up too much CPU cycle but the Sparrow team reply that they are trying to resolve this issue.

If you looking for a simple and stylish email client and haven’t get the priority inbox feature , give it a try on Sparrow.

What you getting after complete the registration is getting an Other Inbox domain name, example for mine is imknight.otherinbox.com, by having this domain, you can put in any name without any special configuration and it work, example you can use facebook@imknight.otherbox.com for facebook , plurk@imknight.otherbox.com  for plurk.

Currently i think only Gmail have this similar feature. you might think what’s the point to have all these trouble ? one of the thing you can do by using this unique name feature, you can track down who actually selling your email address to those spammer.

Another interesting feature it will actually organize the email into folder by brand, i wonder is it base on the domain ? but i understand some of the service sending out their support email other different domain, wonder will it take care of this ?

Some other useful setting like allow to send notification or foward all the email that receive by otherinbox domain to your personal email account, export exmail and allow to configure additional domain.otherbox.com, all these sounds very promising.

One of the interesting is the icons on top , still under development,i wonder what other suprize will we getting when it go live ?  i really look foward the calendar feature.

So what it does is getting email from you and publish it as a blog post, sounds straight forward and i think major blog service do have this feature, the unique part of posterous is – it will host the file that you attach with your email.

Be it a doc, ppt , pdf , jpg/gif/png or mp3, it will upload to posterous and you can set it with a download link or not in your setting. You can try to put youtube url in the email, which posterous will auto embeded the player in your post, similar feature for mp3 file too.

The last cool thing posterous did is cross posting, a cool example is i write a short review attach with some image and post it to posterous , by activate the cross posting feature, it will post my image to my flickr account and at the same time posting it to my blog , all these done by just email.

A few thing to take note is , there are no theme feature yet, although is in their todo list, i can’t find any backup feature too, if i need to remove my account and backup my upload file ? One good thing is it allow you to use your own custom domain.

It seem like a cool apps that can consolidate all your IM and Email, but don’t really think i m going to use it, since i using gmail control all my email and pidgin/adium for all my IM purpose.I think Orgoo should add the support for micro blog like twitter and jaiku because  email, im and microblog should be the 3 main stream of web communication now day.

Hmmm .. now day seem like lots of service like to be all in one package.

P/S just a side note, it seem like i having problem to signup by Firefox 3 RC 1 , after i click on signup button no respone, it doesn’t support safari , in the end i have to use IE  but i can login and use  it with FIrefox 3 RC 1, hmmm …

I got my live.com login long time ago by some unofficial method,since today seem like open for register, i try to register another live.com but it seem like the registration will having some error message on the last step, i suspect it might block non-US ip to register a live.com account. So far testing on live.com.sg working perfectly ok.

One of the service that provide, in case after you get your live.com account and would like to use it as primary account, you can use the TrueSwitch service , what it does is copy all the contact and emails to your new account and notify your old email account’s contact that you switch over to new email account.

If you want to maintain 2 account, in the live.com profile, allow you to have links live ID, which can link your diffenret id ( example hotmail.com or msn.com ) into one account, example if you try to register Office for coporate account before, you actually need a windows sign-in to do it, by using this feature , you can combine multiple id for different purpose under one account.

I was thinking by using proxy or  openDNS , can i register a .live.com account ?
